Laura Wyvonne (Williams) Pate, age 84, of Gatesville passed away Monday, June 23, 2014. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 27, 2014 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 26, 2014 at the funeral home. Wyvonne was born on September 21, 1929 in Coryell County, Slater, Texas to Denton Williams and Mattie Francis (Nixon) Williams. She was a proud native of Coryell County; she was a decendant of the J.D. Williams, Ozias D. Graham, John Alfred (J.A.) Nixon, and John I. Lamb families. She graduated from Gatesville High School in May 1947. Wyvonne married I.V. (Casey) Pate on May 2, 1947, in Gatesville, Texas. She was known for her Christian witness and given to hospitality was always caring, helping, and baking for others. Her culinary skill was known by many and her family has been truly blessed by her gifts as a seamstress and handmade heirlooms. Wyvonne served her church as secretary and treasurer for over 25 years. She also prepared and organized countless meals for visiting preachers and church events. Wyvonne was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She often quoted the simple scripture Mark 14:8, “She hath done what she could”.....and then said of herself, “I have done what I could with what I had!” She was preceded in death by her husband, I.V. Pate in January 2006; mother, Mattie Williams; father, Denton Williams; brothers, Roy Wayne Williams and James Douglas Williams; and step-mother, Dessie Williams Chambers. Wyvonne is survived by a son, Michael D. Pate and wife, Jacqueline of Pflugerville; daughters, Linda Pate Robbins and husband, Ron of Temple and Wandalene Pate Turner and husband, Don of Comanche; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Lloyd David Williams of Waco; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Williams of Gatesville and Hallie Williams of Irving; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
