Verna Faye (Dye) Smalley

Verna Faye (Dye) Smalley died on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 with her family by her side in Gatesville, Texas. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 28, 2014 at First Baptist Church in Gatesville. Burial will follow at Weaver Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, June 27, 2014 at Scott’s Funeral Home. She was born January 7, 1932 in Claude, Texas to S.C. “Buster” and Mae Dye. After graduating from Claude High School, she moved to Amarillo to work and on November 21, 1951 she married Andrew Raby Smalley. She then moved to Long Beach California to be near him at the Naval Base San Diego. In 1956, she moved to Gatesville, Texas with her husband Raby and first two children. She was a member of the First Baptist Church Gatesville. Her interests included family, sewing and reading. She spent her time and energy as a devoted mother and homemaker to her four children. Verna leaves behind her husband, Raby Smalley, and four children, Carol Mills and husband, Billy of Belton, Dan Smalley of Gatesville, Nancy and husband, Keith Norman of Waco, and Carla Peeler and husband, Caesar of San Antonio. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Cory Smalley and wife, Christi of Gatesville, Courtney Mills and wife, Natalie of The Woodlands, Cullen Mills and wife, Erin of Killeen, Dustin Smalley and wife, Ashley of Runaway Bay, Stacy Smalley of Big Spring, Joshua Popa of Winston-Salem, NC, Trevor Roche of Camp Lejune, Fayetteville, NC, Nicole Popa of San Antonio. Great-grandchildren include Kelsie, Payden, Lexie, and Cadence Smalley, Aubrey and Linzi Smalley, and Noah and Avery Mills. Family members preceding her in death are S.C. "Buster" Dye (father), Minnie Mae Cazzell Dye (mother), and Billy Gene Dye (brother). Donations may be sent to First Baptist Church, 912 E. Main, Gatesville, TX 76528.
