James Roy McGlothlin, 77, of Temple passed away on Monday, August 25, 2008 in Temple. Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 PM on Thursday, August 28, 2008 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel with Lloyd Hall officiating. Burial will follow at the Gatesville Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. McGlothlin was born on August 4, 1931 in Coryell County to the late James Phillip and Dewey Adaline Cummings McGlothlin. After he graduated from High School in Gatesville, he joined the Army, where he served his country during the Korean War. After his discharge from the Army he began his career at Rocketdyne in McGregor. James also attended college during this time. He worked at Rocketdyne for 19 years and contributed to the development and production of Saturn/Apollo rocket engines. This played a key role in man’s first landing on the moon. In 1975, James became the City Secretary in Gatesville. He retired in 1995 after 20 years with the city. After his retirement he was on the Gatesville City Council and was a past member of the Gatesville Exchange Club. He also enjoyed gardening and fishing. On November 3, 1955 he married Margaret Hancock in College Station. James was also a member of the Gatesville Church of Christ for many years. James is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margaret of Temple; children, Betsy Clark and husband John of Pearl, Allan McGlothlin and wife Kathy of Cleburne, Leah Hodges and husband Derek of Temple; grandchildren, Cliff and Matthew Clark, Sarah and Mason McGlothlin, Jake and Kyle Holmes; sister, Jo Marie Singletary of Arlington; brother, Ronnie McGlothlin and wife Cheryl of San Marcos; and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gatesville Church of Christ, 2417 East Main, Gatesville, TX 76528.
