Howard Weldon Lacy, age 87, of Lampasas passed away Monday, July 14, 2014 in Lampasas, Texas. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 18, 2014 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kurt Fuessel officiating. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the funeral home. Weldon was born October 27, 1926 in Pearl, Texas to Bessie Olivia Ballard Lacy and Reed Harvey Lacy. In 1940, the family moved to Gatesville where he attended high school. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps July 21, 1944 and served until December 31, 1946 at which time he was honorably discharged with the rank of corporal. On November 24, 1944 Weldon married his sweetheart and best fishing buddy, Evelyn Deane Blanchard. Following the birth of their three children, they moved to Premont, Texas in 1955 and Weldon began his career with Trunkline Gas Co. They lived in Kountze and Cypress, Texas and Shaw, Mississippi before returning to Premont where he retired in 1985. He began his second career, Lacy’s Custom Woodworking and Weldon and Deane continued to fish, golf and travel. They especially enjoyed their trips to New Mexico, Colorado and Branson, Missouri. In 2012 Weldon moved to Burnet, Texas to be closer to family. Weldon was preceded in death by his parents, his infant son, Howard Weldon Lacy, Jr., his grandson, Larry Darren Lacy, his stepmother, Lavail Bishop Lacy and his beloved wife of 64 years, Deane. His is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Diane Lacy of Burnet, Texas; his daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Chris Archibald of Corpus Christi, Texas; his granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Lori D. Lacy and Jonathan Thompson of Austin, Texas; his brother and sister-in-law, Carl D and Martha Lacy of Gatesville, Texas; his stepsister and brother-in-law, LaNell and Delton Stone of Abernathy, Texas; his sisters-in-law, Dorothy Baize, Peggy Blanchard and Linda Blanchard; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Darlene and Ollie Ellis and Delores and Billy Soltow all of Gatesville, Texas and many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews and many dear friends. Thank you to the many caring people at Rollins Brook Community Hospital in Lampasas and the Metroplex Hospital in Killeen. Your kindness will always be remembered. Memorials may be made to Mountain Baptist Church, 6319 E. Hwy 84, Gatesville, TX 76528.
