Marvin Ray Tippit, age 81, of Gatesville passed away Sunday, July 27, 2014. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 31, 2014 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at the funeral home. Ray was born on August 31, 1932 in the Owl Creek community of Coryell County, Texas which is now part of Fort Hood. He was the son of the late Marvin Leroy and Alta Sue Bruton Tippit. He attended Hubbard and Flat schools, graduating from Flat High School in 1949. He married Joyce Hartwick on June 28, 1951. Ray was a civil service employee at Fort Hood for 43 years, retiring in 1993 as a transportation supervisor. He and his wife also owned and operated Tippit’s Western Wear for 22 years. After he retired, he devoted all of his time to his ranching operation. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was also a member of The Gatesville Riding Club where he was a past President and Director, and was made an honorary lifetime member. He was a past member of the Coryell County Sheriff’s Posse and a member of the Central Texas Cattlemen’s Association. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Roy Tippit; brother, Billy Gene Tippit; father-in-law, C.R. (Shorty) Hartwick; mother-in-law, Thelma Hartwick; Ray is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joyce Tippit; daughters, Terrie Lee and husband, Gary and Debra Ray (Debbie) Maxwell and husband, Daryl; brother, Doyle Tippit and wife, Sarabeth; sister-in-law, Ann Tippit; grandchildren, Misti and Kevin Morra, Lori Ray and Brent McLaughlin, Kristian and Tony D’Ingianni, Kyle and Kristine Maxwell, and Chance Marvin and Brittny Lee; and great-grandchildren, Garret and Quinlan Jones, McKenna Ray McLaughlin, Camden Morra, Krisha and Kyler Maxwell, Kian Ryder D’Ingianni, Myler Marvin, and Brayden Lee. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 102 Alta Mira, Gatesville, TX 76528. Pallbearers will be Gary Lee, Daryl Maxwell, Kyle Maxwell, Chance Lee, Tony D’Ingianni, Kevin Morra, Brent McLaughlin, and Garret Jones. Honorary Pallbearers will be Randy Allen, Dale Tippit, Larry Tippit, Cliff Tippit, Denver Tippit, Allen McDonald, Frank Allen, James Dixon, Don Thompson, Ricky Thompson, and Maurice Mathews.
