Doris Marie Sohm

Doris Marie Sohm, age 92, of Gatesville passed away Saturday, August 23, 2014. Funeral Services will be 2 P.M. on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at the Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel with Father Timothy Vaverek officiating. Burial will follow at Smith Cemetery in Purmela. Visitation will begin 6 P.M. on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 with a Rosary to begin at 6:30 P.M. Doris was born on May 9, 1922 in Los Fresnos, Texas to the late Joseph Staufer and Ida Muellenberg Staufer. She attended school in Los Fresnos, Texas quitting in the 6th grade to help support her family. She married R. Q. Moore on June 2, 1942 in Brownsville prior to his entry into the service. After Mr. Moore’s discharge they moved to Coryell County in 1945. She spent most of her life working in health care, 20 of those at Coryell Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and was very active in the prayer chain for many years and at the time of her death was the oldest member of the church. She was a Girl Scout leader for 10 years, a member of VFW Women’s Auxiliary, the Care Center and very active in all of her children and grandchildren’s school activities. She was preceded in death by her husband, R. Q. Moore; husband, Melvin Weaver husband; John Sohm; brother, Kenneth Staufer; sisters; June Bourn and Loretta Heinz. Doris is survived by her daughters, Dorothy Pilkington of Mineral Wells, Barbara Coates and Belinda Moore, both of Gatesville; Son; Raymond Mendoza of Odessa; Sisters, Joyce Gullett of Oregon, and Idella Lout of South Dakota; Brothers; Lyle Staufer of Virginia and Walter Staufer of Louisiana; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
