Joe Truett Lightsey, age 79, of Jonesboro passed away from this life on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 to be with his Heavenly Father. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Jonesboro Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 26, 2014 at Scott’s Funeral Home. Joe was born on December 13, 1934 in Pidcoke, Texas to Truett and Susie Lightsey. His family moved to Jonesboro when he was seven, and he graduated from Jonesboro High School in 1952. Joe graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science degree, and also took other courses at Tarleton State University. Joe served in the National Guard. He worked for General Tire and later for Cardinal Chemical Company. He married Flo Miller on November 22, 1966, and they moved back to Jonesboro where Joe taught school and was principal of the Jonesboro School. He loved to teach his students and enjoyed all the extra-curricular activities at school where he made many friends. Joe was also a rancher and loved to work with his cattle. During the last five years of his life at the Welcome Program of the Coryell County Healthcare System, he got to go out to his place to see the cattle and crops almost every week. Joe loved people and made a host of friends at work, in the National Guard, at church, in the community, in the Welcome Program, and everywhere he went. His friends and family were the joy of his life. Joe was a member of Jonesboro Baptist Church for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeff; and wife, Flo. Surviving him are his sons, Mark, Ronnie Miller and wife, Connie; daughter, Connie Woodson and husband, Gary; three grandchildren, Julie Hinote and husband, Mike and their children, Lucas and Ella, Tim Miller and wife, Ashley, and Josh Miller; three sisters, Melva Lightsey, Paula Foote and husband, Sonny, and Sue Lightsey; two nephews, Than Foote and wife, Traci, and their children, Hallie and Wade and Joe Foote and wife, Crystal and their children, Bracy, Pate, and Truett. The family would like to say a special thanks to his faithful friends, to his nephew Joe for taking such good care of the cattle and ranch, and to all the people at the Welcome Program who showed such love and care for him the last five years.
