Clovis Merkel Belvin, age 96, of Purmela, passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2008 in Clifton, Texas. Services are scheduled for 10:00 AM Saturday, October 4, 2008 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel with H. J. Billingsley and Darrel McWhorter officiating. Burial will follow at Live Oak Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 PM Friday at the funeral home. Clovis was born September 14, 1912 in Hamilton, Texas. He was the son of William Edward Belvin and Maude Jones Belvin. He married Ozella Baize on May 16, 1936 in Hamilton County, Texas. Clovis worked for the telephone company for many years. He loved reading his bible daily. Clovis was a great fisherman and avid deer hunter until the age of 94. He enjoyed farming on his farm in Hamilton County and being with his family and friends. Clovis was a member of Cedar Ridge Church of Christ in Gatesville, Texas where he served as an Elder. He was a remarkable person, wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Clovis was preceded in death by his parents, six siblings, two daughters: Clova Craig and Mary Howeth and husband Sonny and 2 grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Ozella Belvin, son; E. J. and wife Janice of Clifton, daughter; Kay and husband Gene of China Spring, 8 grandchildren and spouses, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. A very special thanks to Jennifer Mendoza for her wonderful care giving and Jackie Brewer for his loyalty to bring books and visits to daddy.
