Ina Starnes, age 85, of Gatesville passed away Thursday, October 2, 2014. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 6, 2014 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Skiles, Rev. Mark Hughes, Rev. James Hughes, and her grandson, Rev. Greg Boone officiating. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at Paint Creek Cemetery in Robert Lee, Texas. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Ina was born on June 15, 1929 in Wichita Falls, Texas to the late John and Faye Murphy Dodson. She graduated from Wichita Falls Senior High School in 1946. She married Travis Starnes on May 19, 1950 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Ina and her husband moved to Gatesville in 2000 after living in Amarillo, Texas for 23 years where her husband, Rev. Travis Starnes, served as pastor of the Northside United Pentecostal Church. Ina served in many capacities in the church with one being the Sunday School Director for 23 years. She served 14 years as UPCI District Ladies Auxiliary Secretary and five years as District Ladies Auxiliary President for the Texico District. She spoke at many Ladies and Men’s Conferences. After moving to Gatesville, she worked part-time at The Parrot and served for a short time as a volunteer at Coryell County Museum. She was a Charter member of the Old Lions Laid Back, a Retired Ministers and Wives Fellowship. She loved being with family and friends. She had a mind for business and used her knowledge to work for the Lord and the church. Ina was very creative with crafts and used her skill to raise money for special funds in the church. Her grandson called her “A Recycled Teenager, as she had the energy of a teenager even in her later years. She loved playing games, working in the yard, and making her house a beautiful home. She attended Gatesville United Pentecostal Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Dodson and Faye Pruett; brother, Ray Pruett; and grandsons, Terry, Kerry, and Gerry Boone. Ina is survived by her husband, Travis Starnes; one son, Ronald Starnes and wife, Linda of Gatesville; one daughter, Gail Boone and husband, Carlton of Gatesville; grandchildren, Rhonda Bruner and husband, Dr. Wayne Bruner of College Station, Rev. Greg Boone and wife, Shanna of Brownsville, and Rodney Starnes of Texarkana; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Freeman of Odessa, Gloria Rohlfing of Baltimore, MD, and Fay Sanders of Tyler; and numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
