Charles Weldon Chambers, age 81, of Lampasas, formerly of Longview and Gatesville passed away Tuesday, October 7, 2014. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 10, 2014 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 9, 2014 at the funeral home. Weldon Chambers was born October 9, 1932 in Bee House, Texas. He attended school in Pearl and Adamsville. Weldon lived in Gatesville, Texas most of his life and moved to Longview, TX with his wife of 37 years so they could be with family. He enlisted in the Navy in 1952. He was very active and proud to be a Mason for 50 years. He served at the Masonic Lodges: Gatesville 197, Bee House 550, Pine Tree 1396, Scottish Rite since 1982 and York Rite Masons. He was always willing to help young Mason’s get their degree and accomplish their goals. While living in Gatesville, he was employed by Texas Department of Correction for 25 years. Weldon was also known for his sheep shearing for over 30 years. Weldon was preceded in death recently by his loving wife Elva Marie Chambers, March 14, 2013; parents, Elisha and Lucy Chambers; brothers, G. B., L.D., and Elijah Chambers; and step-daughter, Judy Blair. Weldon leaves behind a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda & Wesley Williams of Mineral Wells; a son, George Chambers of Hamilton, brother, E. J. Chambers of Lampasas, TX; two granddaughters, Shana Witt of Clifton, TX and Cyndy Chambers of Paris, TX; step-daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and Kenneth Hargrove of Longview, TX; granddaughter and husband, Shannon and Daniel Smith of Whitehouse; grandson and wife, Chad and Jacki Hargrove of Kilgore, and five great-grandchildren, Samuel, Joshua, Rachel, Abby, and Brayden. We would like to express our appreciation for the love you have shown to the family by cards, phone calls and visits. Your friendship has been the best medicine for our hearts. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be sent to The American Association for Cancer so that research may continue and one day this dreaded disease will have a cure.
