Robert Dale Ayres

Robert Dale Ayres, age 63, of Gatesville passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2014. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 10, 2014 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Robert is survived by his son, Casey Ayres and wife, Leah; grandchildren, Cason, Brynli, Dillan, and Alexis; sisters, Mary Reeter, Doris Turner, Pat Kasting, and Bobbie Tippit and their families; and numerous nieces and nephews including his beloved nephew, Billy Tippit. Robert was born on March 30, 1951 in Gatesville, TX to the late Robert Joseph and Dorothy Fay Ayres. He was an independent spirit who danced to the beat of his Irish and Native Indian roots. Robert served his country in Vietnam, and like many others who survived without physical wounds, suffered from emotional wounds that never healed and returned to an angry America who didn’t honor the battles they had endured. He was diagnosed with a deadly brain tumor in July and dealt with his illness with dignity, kindness, and love for his caregivers. He loved his family to the end. Now at last you can rest in peace.
