Rex C. Kinney, age 84, of Pearl, passed away Thursday, October 16, 2008 at the VA Hospital in Temple, Texas. Services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Monday, October 20, 2008 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Willie Clarke officiating. Burial will follow at Pearl Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 2 to 4 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Kinney was born April 19, 1924 in Bell City, Missouri. He was the son of Grover and Edith Kinney. He was raised and attended school in Bell City and Bloomfield, Missouri. He served in the United States Navy from 1941 until 1945 and was a WWII Veteran. He married the former Eva Fortner on August 14, 1944, at the Bremerton Naval Station in Washington State, and they made their home in Chicago, where Mr. Kinney was a chef and owned and operated the Red Circle Inn, Paddock Club in Wheaton, Illinois and Texas Rex Restaurants for 25 years. While in Chicago, he was very active in the Boys Scouts and the American Heart Association. They moved to Santa Anne, California where he was a Certified Executive Chef and worked for the Black Angus Restaurant and was Chief trainer for them from 1977 until his retirement in 1987. They moved to Pearl, Texas in 1990. He was a graduate of Culinary Institute of New York, a member of the American Academy of Chef’s, Past President of the Orange County Chef’s Association, member of the Orange County Empire Chef’s Association, Chef of the year in Orange County, an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a protestant. He was preceded in death by his wife Eva, His daughter Janice Kinney Wolfe, five sisters and three brothers. Survivors include, sons; Michael Kinney, Vince Kinney and Randall Kinney, 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
