George S. Lam, Jr., age 93, of Gatesville passed away in Gatesville November 22, 2014 in the loving arms of his family. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel with Jimmie Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow at Seaton Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. George S. Lam was born September 2, 1921 in Gatesville to the late George Sr. and Olivia Blanchard Lam. He attended many different schools in the county however; his formal education would be cut short by the Great Depression. To help support his family George left school and entered a struggling workforce. When the U.S. entered WWII George enlisted in the Navy and was assigned to a construction battalion (Sea Bees). In support of action in the Pacific, he moved from island to island building docks, roads and runways. His tour of duty passed through the Marshal, Mariana and Solomon Islands in addition to New Guinea and New Zealand. George returned home to Texas near the end of the war and married the love of his life, Dorothy Jean Gilbreath on March 10, 1945. Along with his father and brothers, he had a successful construction company (G.S. Lam and Sons) building many homes, apartments, hotels, and commercial buildings. George and his wife, Dorothy Jean, also ranched in Coryell County and were proud to be able to hand down a place to each of their children. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy Jean of almost 70 years; a brother and 3 sisters. George is survived by son, Mike Lam and wife, Peggy; daughters, Deborah Gunderson and husband, Charles, Suzanne Sellers and husband, Bob; two sisters; two brothers; five grandchildren, Bill Lam, Jim Lam, Dan Lam, Julie Healer, and Ben Ward; and five great-grandchildren.
