Clodius “Cowpoke” Westerfeld went home to be with his Lord and Savior while surrounded by his family on Monday, November 24, 2014 at the age of 88. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Canaan Baptist Church, with Rev. Steven Darst and Rev. Jerry Walters officiating. Interment will follow at the Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation with the family will follow the services at the church. Clodius was born on December 25, 1925 in Osage, Texas to Otto and Minnie Priesmeyer Westerfeld. He was the youngest of 8 living children; twin siblings passed away at birth. On July 29, 1962 he married Margaret “Peggy” Marie Lord in Barnum, Minnesota. Their love truly knew no boundaries. Some men cross an ocean - Peggy traded in snow and majestic lakes for huge grasshoppers and the Texas heat, but what she gained was an amazing husband, father and friend. Clodius loved to farm and he passed his legacy of farming on to his three sons and his grandchildren as well. When he wasn’t farming he was either at home with his family or at church. He was an active member of Canaan Baptist Church, serving on several different committees. In his younger years he ministered to the youth and then went on to sing in the choir, teach the Men’s Sunday School Class, and serve as a deacon. He was also secretary/treasurer of the Canaan Baptist Cemetery Association. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and all 9 of his siblings. He is survived by Peggy, his wife of 52 years, three sons: Mark and his wife Katy, David and his wife Sharon, and Richard and his wife Rhonda. He also has 17 grandchildren: Isaac, Faith, Peter, Stephen, Matthew, Michael, Andrew, Ruth, Joshua, Bethany, Nathan, Rebekah, Micah, Mary, Levi, Daniel, and Elizabeth, and numerous friends. All of us will miss him dearly. Memorials may be made to the Canaan Baptist Cemetery Association, c/o Irwin Blum, 1673 Prairie Chapel Road, Crawford, Texas 76638 or memorial of your choice.
