Melita Alma Wood

Melita Wood, 87, of Gatesville passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2008. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, November 2, 2008 at Scott’s Funeral Home with burial following at the Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service. Mrs. Wood was born on July 19, 1921 in Pidcoke to the late John Henry and Lillie Kiser Barker. She was raised in Pidocke where she attended school before graduating in Gatesville in the late 1930’s. Melita had a long illustrious career as an entrepreneur owning an antique store and later her own dress shop. She loved people, playing dominoes, her garden and her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, James Phillips in 1981 and Johnnie Wood in 2004; sisters, Rosa Halk; brothers, Denver Barker, Woodrow Tipton and a nephew, James Logan. Melita is survived by a great niece that she raised and loved as a daughter, Brenda Rhudy and husband James and their children, Bryan Rhudy and wife Jamie and Tawyla Majek and husband Joseph and their daughter Romi. She is also survived by her niece Barbara Oldham; great nephews, John Oldham and wife Nina and their daughters, Shanna & Shelbi, Wayne Oldham and daughter, Linsdsey; great niece, Lillie Ann and her sons, Michael Green and Brent Green and his daughters, Summer and Megan; step children, James Phillips, Jimmy Wood, Rick Wood, Patty Senna, Jan McLean and several step grandchildren and great grandchildren.
