Lenora Dene Smith

Lenora Dene Smith, age 87, of Gatesville, passed away on Friday, December 12, 2014 in Gatesville. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Crosby officiating. Burial will follow at the Pearl Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 on Tuesday at Scott’s Funeral Home. Mrs. Smith was born on March 14, 1927 in Pearl, Texas to the late William Pickens and Lenora Vaughan Freeman. She was the youngest of 11 children. She married Frank “Shorty” Smith, and they resided in Coryell County all of their married lives. She was the secretary at First Baptist Church for 14 years, and later worked for TDCJ as a correctional officer at the Mountain View Unit retiring in 1992. She was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1991; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Smith in 2013; and her 10 older siblings. She is survived by her two sons, Clyde Smith and Gaines Smith; seven grandchildren, Tammy Jones, Cody Smith, Shanah Sams, Casey Pruitt, Justin Smith, Janelle Burkett, and Jennifer King; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
