Mary Winkler

Mary Winkler, age 95, of Gatesville passed away Monday, December 22, 2014. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m., Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Scott’s Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Gurley officiating. A private family interment will follow at Restland Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Mrs. Winkler was born on March 22, 1919 in The Grove, Texas to the late William and Johnnie Graham. She attended school in McGregor, and later graduated from West Texas State Teachers Demonstration School in Canyon, Texas. After graduating, she continued her education at West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas. She married Ben Winkler on December 23, 1937; they made their home in Coryell County all their married lives. He preceded her in death in 2001. She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Gatesville. Mrs. Winkler is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Floyd and husband, Joe and Johnnie Peevey and husband, Doug; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. Tim Maynard, the loving staff at The Meadows, who were her second family for the past 13 years and to Gentiva Hospice for their care.
