Bill Joe Braziel

Bill Braziel, age 87, of Gatesville, passed away December 31, 2014. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday afternoon, January 3, 2015 at Scotts Funeral Home in Gatesville with burial following at Restland Cemetery. Visitation will follow the service. Mr. Braziel was born on January 21, 1927 in Coryell City, Texas to the late Mack and Bessie Maxwell Braziel. He attended school in Purmela and Gatesville. He served in the Navy during World War II. He married Annie Ruth Franks on December 20, 1947. They lived a short time in Plainview, Texas and the remainder of the time they lived in Gatesville. He worked at Killeen Base as the supervisor for the Refrigeration, Air Conditioning Division. He transferred from Killeen Base to Ft. Hood and worked there until his retirement in 1982. Mr. Braziel was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gatesville all of his life. He was preceded in death by his brother, Mike Braziel. Mr. Braziel is survived by his wife, Ruthie of 67 years; daughter, Carol Riddle and her husband, Hugh; son, Steve Braziel and his wife, Carla; and daughter, Janey Calhoun and her husband, Rory; brother, Bertrum Davis; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Nancy Ashcraft. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at The Meadows who cared for him for the past one year and six months. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the charity of your choice.
