James Millsap

James Millsap, age 85, of Purmela, passed away Sunday, January 25, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 29, 2015 at the Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel in Gatesville. Burial will follow at the Murphree Cemetery in Evant with military honors. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at the funeral home. Mr. Millsap was born on June 28, 1929 in Adamsville, TX. He was the son of the late Albert and Ola Carroll Millsap. He married Bertie Townsend in 1951, and then later that year he entered the U.S. Army. He served during the Korean War in Germany and was honorably discharged in 1953. They resided in Hewitt and Woodway. He owned and operated Millsap Pest Control and Storage in Hewitt before his retirement. He was a big supporter of Midway athletics and Midway F.F.A. while his girls were in school. He served on the Woodway City Council for many years as a Councilman and was a member and Deacon of First Baptist Church of Woodway. He was on the Structural Pest Control Board of Texas and served as President of the Central Texas Pest Control Board for a number of years. He was also a Ham Radio operator. The passions of his life were the love for his wife of 64 years and his children. He was a big gardener and loved giving vegetables to friends and family. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved going to the Pearl Bluegrass Jam in Pearl, TX and recording their stage shows for a number of years. Survivors include his wife, Bertie Townsend Millsap; three daughters, Sharon Cumby and husband, Larry, Cheryl Pratka and husband, Thomas, and Shirley Oliver and husband, Sonny; seven grandchildren, Kelly Jackson and husband, David, Jeremie Cumby and fiancé, Jamie, Marla Cowan and husband, Reed, James (J.T.) Pratka and wife, Misty, Cody Pratka and wife, Maggie, Brandon Oliver, and Kristie Oliver and fiancé, Jackson; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Lee Doyle Millsap and wife, Jean; and a host of nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Pearl Community Center, 2082 FM 1690, Gatesville, TX 76528.
