Mildred Antonece Bertrand Rogers, 94, of Coryell County passed away in College Station on January 26, 2015. The celebration of her life service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Oglesby on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. The burial will take place immediately following the service at Davidson Cemetery in the Pecan Grove community. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville. Antonece was the eldest daughter of Rabb Albert and Mildred Retta (Cook) Bertrand and was born at her Purmela, Texas home where she lived until she graduated from Gatesville High School. She moved to Stephenville, Texas to attend John Tarleton State College. Following the completion of her Associates Degree, she worked during the war years as the Head Secretary for the Dean of the School of Agriculture. She met her husband, a World War II veteran, Harmon Arch Rogers, Jr. at college and they were married in Stephenville, Texas on August 16, 1947. They moved to College Station, Texas, for her husband’s completion of his Civil Engineering degree at Texas A&M College in 1949. During that time, she continued her work as an administrative secretary in the Texas A&M School of Agriculture. She returned to work in 1966 as the Executive Secretary for the American Red Cross, Coryell County chapter. Her tenure in this role included service to many military families residing adjacent to Fort Hood during the Vietnam War. Following retirement in 1986, she spent much of her time on “the Ranch” and as a church and civic volunteer. She served as secretary for many years for the Administrative Board of Oglesby United Methodist Church. Her leadership in the community included service as a member, leader and officer of Oglesby PTA, Oglesby Home Demonstration/Extension Education Club, Gatesville 4H Club, Coryell County Extension Family and Consumer Sciences Committee, Morris Federation, Coryell County Museum, and the Daughters of American Revolution. Her high school alma mater recognized her exemplary community service with the Norris Graves Outstanding Alumnus Award. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband; sister, Charlotte Ruth Bertrand Chafin; and two brothers, Dr. Anson Rabb Bertrand and Dr. Clint Albert Bertrand. Antonece leaves behind to cherish her memories, her daughter, Dr. Margaret Antonece Rogers Hale and husband, Ray of College Station, Texas; and son, Dr. Harmon Arch Rogers, III. and wife, SuAnn of Pullman, Washington. She also leaves behind six granddaughters, Carla Rogers McCord and husband, Cam McCord, Karen Rogers DeJohn and husband, Chris DeJohn, Kristi Rogers Knapp and husband, Julian Knapp, Bethany Cox Smith and husband, Chris Smith, Natalie Hale Randazzo and husband, Chris Randazzo, and Kimberly Hale Shortell and husband, Alan Shortell; and a grandson, Christopher Ryan Cox and wife, Aris Cox. She loved being “Great Gran” to great-grandchildren, Nathan and Caitlyn Jackson, Brooke and Cooper Smith, Ella Cox, Kori, Gabriel, and Rhylee Tamayo, Allison, Alaina, and Nicholas Randazzo, and Zachary and Kathryn Shortell. She also leaves behind two sisters-in-law, Ruth Bertrand and Gloria Bertrand; and nieces and nephews, including Steven Bertrand, Wayne Bertrand, Sharon Bertrand Rickard, Cynthia Bertrand Smith, Dr. Leslie Bertrand, and Vicky Cook Johnson. The family wishes to thank Pam Simon, who lovingly assisted with the care for Antonece over the past four years.
