John Holmes

John Holmes, 74, of Coryell City, passed away on December 5, 2008 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 9th, at Scott’s Funeral Home. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Osage Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Holmes was born on May, 22, 1934 in Marigold, MS to the late Harvey and Willie Mae Bailey Holmes. He attended school in Shelby, MS. Mr. Holmes served in the U.S. Air force, retiring after 22 years. He worked for many years for the McGregor Police Department. He also worked for the Harden Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Lucretia Holocker, and a son, Patrick Holmes. He is survived by his wife, Elra Holmes of Coryell City; sons, Bethrad Lawson of Texarkana, Perry Holmes, Zachary Holmes, and Damon Holmes; a daughter, Jessica Holmes; sisters, Loyce Elmoore, Faye Ellis, and Janie Foley; and one brother, Milton Holmes; 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
