Bennie Shelton

Bennie Shelton, age 75, of Gatesville passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2015. Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Flint Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 27, 2015 at the funeral home. Bennie was born on March 23, 1939 in Flat, Texas to the late Jesse Brown and Willie Roberts Brown. She attended school in Flat, graduating in 1959. She continued her education at a business college in Temple. She married Jackie Shelton on February 19, 1960. She worked at Gatesville I.S.D. in food service for many years. She also worked at T.D.C.J. for over 10 years, retiring in 1996. Bennie attended Cold Springs Baptist Church in Flat. She loved listening to the singing and preaching, and attending church fellowships. She loved fishing, anything outdoors, gardening, cooking, baking, and especially family gatherings. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister, La Nell Neatherlin. Bennie is survived by her sons, Randy Shelton and Ray Shelton; daughter, Deena Tanner and husband, Ronnie; twin sisters, Tommie Tabors and husband, Jimmy and Johnnie Whigham; brothers, Ronnie Brown and Jerry Brown and wife, Wendy; five grandchildren, Jake, Ryan, Rhegan, and Shiloh Tanner, and Chelsae Desormeaux; five great-grandchildren, Zaylie Tanner, Rhilynn Tanner, Kinsler Jackson, and Jacob and Emma Desormeaux; and beloved great-niece, Summer Jackson.
