Merle Hopson Davidson, 97, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 in Webster, Texas. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 2, 2015 at White Mound Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Scott’s Funeral Home, 2425 E. Main St., Gatesville, TX. Born on March 28, 1917 in Mound, Texas, Merle was the daughter of the late Reuben Sedwick Hopson and Etta Pearl Whitten Hopson. She attended Gatesville High School and Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas. She wed Perry Franklin Davidson on August 25, 1938, with whom she shared 40 years of marriage. She was a cherished teacher of music, sharing her love of piano with countless students. From an early age, she served as pianist for White Mound Baptist Church where she treasured her involvement in its ministries. She was a member of the Woman's Missionary Union, First Baptist Church of Longview, and the Longview Piano Teachers Guild. She enjoyed painting, cooking, singing in the choir, shopping, getting her nails done, and beating all of her opponents in Scrabble! In her later years, she used her creative talent to design greeting cards for corresponding with her friends and family, including her very loved brothers and sister. While she will be remembered for her outer beauty and meticulous style of dress; her inner beauty will stand the test of time. She was loving, warm, generous, and never had a traffic ticket. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Perry Franklin Davidson; and son, Neill Fred Davidson. She is survived by her son, Karl Davidson and wife, Cassie of Huntsville, Texas; daughter, Jeanette Davidson Hollis and husband, Mark of Clear Lake, Texas; two grandsons, Doud Davidson and wife, Carla of Topeka, Kansas and Neill C. Davidson and wife, Dee of Frisco, Texas; two granddaughters, Lynea Upson and husband, Jay of Plano, Texas and Karyl Patredis and husband, Jon of Frisco, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Skye Davidson of Lewisville, Texas, Emma Davidson of Frisco, Texas, and Preston Patredis of Frisco, Texas. Memorial donations may be made to White Mound Baptist Church, P.O. Box 103, Mound, TX 76558. Pallbearers will include Merle's two grandsons, two grandson-in-laws, and two step-grandsons, Warren McGalliard of Magnolia, Texas and Christopher Hollis of Austin, Texas. Honorary pallbearers are Bill Hollis of Austin, Texas and her great grandson.
