Samuel Duffie Riddle, age 80, of Flat passed away on Friday, February 27, 2015 in Gatesville. Graveside Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at Flint Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Duffie was born on July 30, 1934 in Gatesville to the late Wilson and Alma Sheppard Riddle. Duffie graduated from High School in Carlsbad, New Mexico in 1952. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1956, and served for 3 years. Duffie met Martha Calame while working for the railroad before he was drafted. They later married on August 12, 1957, while Duffie was home on leave. He was in the Army Reserve from 1959-1965, and in 1966 he began his 37 year career at what is now referred to as MATES, retiring in 1992. After retirement, he enjoyed wood working and helping establishing the Flat Volunteer Fire Department. Duffie is survived by his wife of 57 years, Martha Riddle; son, Mike Riddle and wife, Liz of Gatesville; daughter, Carla Manning and husband, Steve; brother, Kenneth Riddle and wife, Velva; grandchildren, Alex Manning and Brian Riddle and wife, Tammy, CL Riddle; and one great-granddaughter, Chesney Riddle.
