Doris Lee White Thomas

Doris Lee White Thomas, age 89, of Gatesville passed away peacefully on Friday, March 6, 2015. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 9, 2015 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Chad Bertrand officiating. Burial will follow at Hemmeline Cemetery. There is no set time for visitation. Doris was born in Mound, Texas on January 11, 1926 to John Dee and Anna Myrtle Dunlap White. She married Billie Thomas on April 24, 1941. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She spent many years working alongside her husband on the family farm and raising their six children. She began working at HEB in 1971, retiring in 1986. Doris loved to read and enjoyed writing poetry and stories based on her family and life experience. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gatesville. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Billie; daughter, Cindy Thomas; great-grandson, Colt Schiff; and sister, Lynda White. Doris is survived by her children, Jackie Thomas, Ricky Thomas and wife, Sandra, Robbie Lam and husband, Gene, Shawn Thomas, and Jody Thomas and wife, Robin; brother, Joe White and wife, JoAnn; sister, Myrtice Bohne; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
