Luther James Smith, age 76 of Jonesboro, passed away on Saturday, March 07, 2015 at his home. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at the Turnersville Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 PM Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at the funeral home. He was born March 28, 1938 in the Pancake community of Coryell County, to Barton Ruben and Eva Smith and married Maria Alvarado in 2000. James worked at the Adrian Foote Ranch for 50 years, helping several generations of the Foote and Weber families. He was a skilled horseman who loved all kinds of animals and driving tractors, and was a valued member of the ranch family. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brothers Junior and Leroy. He is survived by his wife Maria; her children Michael Alvarado and Lena Ortiz and husband Greg; grandchildren Gavin, Brooklyn, and Elayna; sister, Mozelle Dixon and husband Tut; niece Barbara Williams; and great nephew Neil Williams. Although he had no children of his own, James was a father figure to many and made a lasting impact on the lives of all he knew.
