Joyce Young

Joyce Young, age 74, of Gatesville passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2015. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 16, 2015 at King Baptist Church. Burial will follow at King Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville. Joyce was born on July 1, 1940 in Coryell County, Texas to the late Wade Dyer and Marvel Lawrence Dyer. She graduated from Gatesville High School in 1958. She married Maurice Young on May 27, 1958. She continued her education at Baylor University, receiving two Master Degrees in Education. Joyce taught at Groesbeck and Mexia schools. She moved to Gatesville in 1974, and resided in the King community since 1978. She was the principal for Windam School System at the T.D.C.J. Hilltop Unit. She was an education diagnostician. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Maurice Young; daughters, Kathy Tull and husband, Stanley of Gatesville and Sherri Harrison and husband, Darrell of Dallas; son, Richard Young and wife, Dayna of Princeton; brother, Ronnie Dyer and wife, Sondra of King; sisters, Sandra Spence and husband, Grady of King; grandchildren, Phillip Tull and wife, Cristy, Jered Tull and wife, Dawn, Amber Wilson and husband, Nate, Wade Young, and Kayla Young; great-grandchildren, Miles Tull, Tripp Tull, Allie Tull, and Emmalee Tull; step-children, Jennifer and Chad Bates, Nathan and Danielle Harrison, and Nicholas and Lindsey Harrison; and step-grandchildren, Parker Mesker, Preston Mesker, Cade Bates, Wyatt Harrison, and Emma Harrison.
