Freda Greenwood

Freda M. Greenwood, age 98 of Austin, passed away on December 10, 2008 at an Austin hospital. Graveside services are scheduled for 4:00 P.M. Sunday, December 14, 2008 at the Masonic Cemetery in Gatesville with Rev. Billy Johnson officiating. Freda was born on July 13, 1910 in Gatesville, Texas to the late John Wiley Laxson and Tabitha Mabel Blair Laxson. She grew up in Purmela, attending school and later graduating from Gatesville High School. She married William Greenwood, who was in the Air Force and they traveled the world extensively. During their stay in Germany, she studied art and became an avid painter. They eventually settled in Salado, Texas where she was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church. She later moved to Austin with her daughter, Peggy, and remained there until her death. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one brother, and one sister. She is survived by her daughter, Peggy O’Leary of Austin; a sister, Billie Powell of Gatesville; one grandson, Patrick O’Leary; great grandsons, Simon O’Leary and Doug O’Leary and two great-great grandsons, Austin O’Leary and Patrick O’Leary, II.
