LeRoy Eugene Frye, age 80, of Gatesville passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at a local hospital surrounded by his grandchildren. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Scott’s Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Restland Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 27, 2015 at the funeral home. LeRoy was born on December 24, 1934 in Washington, D.C.; he was the son of the late Carl Eugene Frye and Edith Boice Frye. Mr. Frye grew up in Front Royal, Virginia where he graduated from Warren County High School. After a post-graduate year at Randolph Macon Military Academy, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas, where he served as a Military Police Officer and met Emma Ortega. The two were married in the Lutheran Church in 1956 and were married for 55 years. LeRoy was a 1989 graduate of Central Texas College. He joined the Fire Department at Ft. Hood and retired after 24 years as a firefighter. He then worked for the Texas Correctional System, from which he retired after 10 years as a correctional officer. He continued to keep busy with many other jobs and projects. He was a long-time member of Trinity Baptist Church in Gatesville. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Emma Ortega Frye; son, Joe Frye; and his sister, Charlotte Frye Steed. LeRoy is survived by his daughter, Virginia Frye Miller; grandchildren, Angel Williams and husband, Jason, Cole Miller, Matthew Miller, Tiffany Miller, and John Miller; great-grandchildren, Julianne, Anson, and Josephine Williams; brother, Carl Frye and wife, Nancy; and many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Gatesville Fire Dept. or Gatesville Police Dept. The family extends sincere thanks to Claudia Carroll and Alisa Gregory, to the Gatesville Fire and Police Departments, who tried so valiantly to help him during the fire, and the medical team at Scott and White Hospital, who gave him such compassionate care.
