Jerry Von Smith, age 54, of Virginia Beach, Virginia passed away Monday, April 20, 2015 after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 27, 2015 at School Creek Baptist Church in Lampasas County. Burial will follow at Hillsdale Cemetery near Izora. Jerry was born on September 8, 1960 in Gatesville, Texas to Klevon Smith and Frances Krempin Smith. He attended school in Evant, graduating from Evant High School in 1979. After high school, he worked at Deck Boat. He also worked for Southern Steel on the construction of the Hughes Unit of T.D.C.J., as well as many other correctional facilities across the country. He married Sandra E. Benson on November 27, 1997. Later in life, he worked at gun ranges in Virginia. He enjoyed collecting guns, being a gunsmith, was a lifetime member of the NRA and S.A.S.S., and loved riding motorcycles with his wife in the mountains. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Myrna Smith and Deanna Eickenhorst-Kenniger; grandparents, Buster and Lorena Krempin, Thomas Smith, and Addie Smith. Jerry is survived by his wife, Sandra Smith; sons, Sean Smith and Jordan Smith and wife, Elizabeth “Lisa”; parents, Klevon and Frances Smith; sister, Darlene Kyle and husband, Mark; brothers, Dean Smith and wife, Marcella and James Smith; grandchildren; J. T., Madison, and Tatum; nephews, Brandon Smith and Justin Kyle; and nieces, Cheryl Simmons, Bethany and Kaitlyn Kyle.
