Howard Smart, age 96 of Levita, passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 in Gatesville. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 15, 2015 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jess McCabe officiating. Burial will follow at Hillsdale Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 14, 2015 at the funeral home. Howard was born on April 24, 1919 in Izora, Texas. He was the son of the late Jeff and Tula Howard Smart. He grew up and went to school in Izora, graduating from Pearl High School. He married Doris Baize on May 17, 1941. He was drafted into the Air Force and served in WWII in India for three years. He served in the 412th Air Service Squadron and obtained the rank of Tech Sgt., where he was a certified mechanic on B-24 Bombers. He was a superintendent for Odell Gear Construction, retiring after 36 years of service in 1988. He was a member of Boots-N-Saddle Cowboy Church. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Judy in 1942. He is survived by his wife of almost 74 years, Doris Smart; two sons, Donnie Smart and wife, Patsy, Larry Smart and wife Theresa; sister, Freda Cook; grandchildren, Keith Smart and wife, Kay, Amy Craft and husband, Bryan, Ross Smart and wife, Jessica, Margaret Harvey, Mark Harvey, and Michael Harvey; great-grandchildren, Morgan Smart, Marley Smart, Caden Craft, Brody Craft, Shaylie Smart, Joli Archie, and Jacy Archie.
