Johnnie Peevey, age 70 of Gatesville, passed away with her family by her side, on Friday, May 29, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Gene Gurley officiating. Private family interment will follow at Restland Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 PM Monday, June 1, 2015 at the funeral home. Johnnie was born on May 21, 1945 in Gatesville, to the late Ben and Mary Graham Winkler. She attended school in Gatesville and later graduated from Southwest Texas State University with her Bachelor’s Degree and the University of Texas with a Library Science Certificate. She married Doug Peevey on December 26, 1976; they made their home in Gatesville all their married lives. After teaching in Copperas Cove, she began a career with the Windham School District, where she served as a teacher and librarian until her retirement in 2004. She was a faithful servant of her Lord as a member of the First United Methodist Church of Gatesville. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, Mimi, and friend. She enjoyed Keno and being with her friends. She loved her granddaughters and spending time with them blowing bubbles, playing dress-up, and "eating" plastic food from their play kitchen. Mrs. Peevey is survived by her husband of 38 years, Doug; sons, Jeff Peevey and Scott Pinkston and wife, Rhonda; two granddaughters, Caitlyn and Avery Pinkston; sister, Carolyn Floyd and husband, Joe; many nieces and nephews and loving friends. The family wishes to express their appreciation to her doctors, the loving staff at The Meadows, who cared for her and her family during her last days and to Gentiva Hospice for their care.
