LaHoma Erle Baize, age 90, of Gatesville passed away Thursday, June 18, 2015. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Scott’s Funeral Home with Deral McWhorter officiating. Burial will follow at Live Oak Cemetery in Hamilton County. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral services. LaHoma was born on February 28, 1925 in Nacogdoches, Texas to Joseph and LaVerne Crocker Holcomb. She graduated from Longview High School. She attended college at the University of Oklahoma. She married Haynes Baize on December 10, 1962. She was a member of the Cedar Ridge Church of Christ in Gatesville. She worked as a telephone operator with Southwestern Bell, as well as working at Texas Youth Commission and Land’s Dry Goods in Evant, Texas. She loved playing Keno with her many friends, volunteering at the Gatesville Care Center, singing with the Singing Sixties group, writing letters, working crossword puzzles; and watching and rising her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She made the best chocolate meringue pie and goulash. She was the best “Mamaw” in the world and loved her family with all of her heart. She was preceded by her parents; husband; one brother, Alton Holcomb; one son, Geary Baize; and one grandson, Joseph Bailey Smith. LaHoma is survived by her daughter, Jonnie Smith of Purmela; son, Fred Weaver and wife, Linda of Gatesville; grandchildren, Glenda Chastain of Gatesville, Jack Gummelt and wife, Shelly of Sandia, TX, and Shawn Weaver and wife, Lindsay of Kyle, TX; and great-grandchildren, Kelbi Chastain Badger and husband, Robert of Gatesville, Karlee Baize Chastain and fiancé, Holden Radle of Gatesville, Kensley Iris Smith of Gatesville, Madison Loree Gummelt of Sandia, TX, Samson Fred Weaver and Rocket Weaver, both of Kyle, TX.
