Ella Hollingsworth

Ella Mae Holden Hollingsworth, age 95, of Gatesville went to be with her Lord on Thursday, June, 25, 2015. Visitation will be Sunday, June 28, at 3:00 pm at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville with services following at 4:00 pm. Pastor Ken Laney will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Gatesville Masonic Cemetery. Ella was born on January 6, 1920, in Coryell County, Texas, to E.P. and Birdie Hurst Holden. She was the oldest of eight children. She attended school in Gatesville and Jonesboro, Texas. She graduated from Jonesboro ISD in 1937 and was a member of the Jonesboro Eagles basketball team. Ella married Pat N. Hollingsworth on March 22, 1942, in Gatesville. During World War II she worked at Fort Hood while he served in the Army. They later owned and operated Hollingsworth Foods. Ella and Pat were married for 27 years until his death in 1969. She then worked at TYC State School for Boys and began working at the Coryell County Clerk’s Office as a deputy clerk from 1975 until her retirement in 1990. She was an active member and worker of the First Baptist Church in Gatesville for all of her adult life and enjoyed working with the children at Mother’s Day Out after her retirement. She had many fond memories while participating in the JOY Choir. She also helped with the children at H.O.T. Moms at the First United Methodist Church. Her true passion, however, was being a member of the Coryell Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Volunteers where she served actively for over 25 years. Ella was a faithful wife, loving mother and proud grandmother who devoted her life to her God, family, and friends. Ella was preceded in death by her husband, Pat N. Hollingsworth; a grandson, Todd Jones; a granddaughter, Carrie Casey; her parents, E.P. and Birdie Holden; her two sisters, Estelle Boynton and Neoma Southerland; and three brothers, Travis, Arthur and Ernest Holden. She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Jones and Vicki Casey and husband, Jerry, all of Gatesville; three grandsons Michael Jones and Greg Casey of Gatesville and Patrick Casey and wife, Kelli, of Frisco, Texas; three great-granddaughters Ashley, Alison, and Natalie Jones; four great-grandsons Seth, Kyle, Jacob, and Ethan Casey; one great-great-grandson Cayden Jones; brothers, Raye Holden and wife, Mildred, and Garlan Holden and wife, Gaenelle; numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 912 E. Main, Gatesville, Texas, or American Heart Association.
