She attended school in Kansas City and graduated from Southeast High School. Following high school, she attended and graduated from the University of Kansas with a bachelor’s degree in education in 1971. Diane was a high school English teacher for several years and taught at Bryan High School in Bryan, Texas, and Linganore High School in Frederick, Maryland. She kept the home running smoothly while her husband served overseas in several assignments with the Army. She loved her family, especially her five grandchildren, and centered her life on all of them. She also enjoyed sewing, cross-stitch, crochet, quilting and doling out unsolicited advice, especially to her daughter. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, William E. Burns II. Diane is survived by her husband, John Morrill; her daughter, Heather Ashley (David); her son, Scott (Courtney); grandchildren, Cody, Isabella, Hannah, Rylan and Isla; sisters, Sharon Regnery and Cindy Novotny; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials are directed to a local Cub Scout pack or Boy Scout troop.
