Sandy graduated from Jonesboro High School, Jonesboro, Texas and Baylor University and taught secondary English and reading for over 25 years in Houston public schools. For over four decades she was a part of the growth of the Second Baptist Church of Houston, serving in ministries for new mothers, internationals, and pre-school children. Her spiritual gift of teaching was used by the Lord to encourage and inspire young people and adults throughout her life. Sandy loved to spend time introducing her family to her love for nature and history through summer vacations and weekend trips. Being in the midst of God's creation was not only a way for her to relax but also an opportunity to enjoy the company of those she loved. Her never ending awe with wildlife and mountain views was contagious to those around her and will be greatly missed. Her self-sacrificing heart was best seen in her devotion to her family and her eagerness to always help her co-workers, as she always took time to support her children in youth sports and to celebrate milestones in their careers and always took time to encourage and share her ideas with other teachers. Most importantly, having experienced the love of Christ in her own life, Sandy sought to share this with others by a humble example, a thoughtful gesture, and an insightful word.
