Max O. Meek, age 88, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 21, 2015 at his home, surrounded by his family. Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Steve Bogan officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at Restland Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to services. Max was born on February 12, 1927 in Stillwater, Oklahoma to the late William and Ruth Brookman Meek. He attended Uvalde, Texas high school before joining the United States Navy during World War II. Max served aboard the U.S.S. Cabot-CVL-28 in the Pacific Theater. After the war and his honorable discharge in 46, he met and married the love of his life, Wynona V. Keen of Oklahoma City on February 16, 1951. In 1971, the family relocated in Texas from New Mexico where he worked as a truck driver then as a Campus Police Officer for Odessa College. In 1988 Max moved his family to Gatesville, where he has resided ever since. Max recounted the most significant decision and event in his life, as the day he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior in 1963. He was a member and served as a deacon at Calvary Baptist Church for over 20 years. Max served as Chaplain for The American Legion and the D.A.V. of Gatesville. He also taught numerous classes to Jr. High and High School students on proper etiquette of the American Flag. He was a licensed general Ham Radio Operator and enjoyed talking with other “hams”. He was preceded in death by his wife on April 19, 2005. Max is survived by his children, Michael Meek and wife, Marveena of Forney, Tanya Bond and husband, Rodney of Gatesville, Max Gregory Meek of Carencro, Louisiana and Sheila Butler and husband Dale of Gatesville; his identical twin, Joe Meek of Odessa, Howard Meek of Nashville, TN, Stan Meek of Yukon, OK; along with 11 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Memorials have been designated to Calvary Baptist Church, 1700 W. Main St. Gatesville, TX 76528.
