Roy Wittie, age 90 of Gatesville, passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2015 in Gatesville. Private graveside services will be held at Walker Cemetery in Ft. Hood. Roy was born on March 15, 1925 in the Spring Hill community of Coryell County, now part of Ft. Hood. He grew up and went to school there in Spring Hill. He married Dorothy Fay Rose in 1943 and the next month entered the US Army. He served mostly in the Philippines and was discharged in 1945. After he came back from the service, they made their home in Coryell County. She preceded him in death in 1998. He worked as a civil service employee for a short time at Ft. Hood. He owned and operated Mountain Grocery Store for many years and was a farmer and rancher in Turnersville. He enjoyed rodeos and roping and good horses. He was a Baptist. He is survived by his daughters, Pamela Shoemaker and husband, Billy, Tanna Jones, and Rita Wood and husband, Jimmy; son, Danny Wittie and wife, Carolyn; sister-in-law, Skip Wittie; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
