Mary Lou Springstun

Mary Lou Springstun, age 85, of Austin, formerly of Gatesville passed away Monday, August 24, 2015. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 28, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Gatesville. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 27, 2015 at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville. Mary was born July 22, 1930 in Odessa, Texas to Martin Hayden Boone and Lula Fay Petree Boone. She received her bachelor’s degree from S.M.U. where she was a talented flautist. She was accepted to study with a renowned flautist in Philadelphia after she graduated. She married Richard Springstun on July 22, 1953. Mary taught elementary school in Gatesville, retiring in 1988. She resided in Gatesville until 2003, moving to Austin to live with her daughter and grandchildren. Mary was a craftsman when it came to hosting parties, was an avid bridge player, and had a passion for music. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard Springstun 1996; son, Tom Springstun 1984; and sister, Dottie Mason. Survivors include daughter, Shane Oldham; brother, M.H. Boone; grandchildren, Hayden Oldham and Katie Oldham; and beloved dog, Hallie.
