Gene Ray Price, age 77, of Hamilton, TX went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, September 12, 2015 surrounded by family in Hamilton. Funeral Services will be at 10 AM on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at the Jonesboro Baptist Church with burial following at 3 PM at Smith Cemetery near Waxahachie, TX. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Monday at the funeral home. Gene was born on October 22, 1937 in Palmer, Texas to the late Robert “Slim” and Minnie Sills Price. At the age of 17, he preached a sermon on John 3:16 which served as a testament to his own salvation. In 1958, he joined the United States Army and proudly served for four years. Also in 1958, he married his childhood sweetheart, Patsy Mathews, on October 8th. After serving his country, he worked for Stauffer Chemical Company for nearly 20 years. They moved to Gatesville and he worked for TDCJ, retiring after 10 years of service. During his retirement, he loved fishing with his family, barbecuing, gardening, writing stories, and watching his grandkids' extracurricular activities. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Edward Price, Robert “Bob” Price, David Price, Carl Price, Danny Price; and a grandson, Jacob Michael Drumheller. Gene is survived by his wife of almost 57 years, Patsy Price of Hamilton, TX; daughters, Teresa Drumheller of Hamilton, TX, Cathie Chaney and husband, Sam Gummelt of Evant, TX; sons, Darrel Price and wife, Melissa of Bellingham, WA, Eric Price of Gatesville, TX; special niece, Angela Warmack of Angleton, TX; 18 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to offset final expenses.
