Dan E. Mayberry, age 72 of Gatesville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Live Oak Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the Mound Cemetery. There is no set time for visitation. Dan was born on February 25, 1943 in the Hubbard community of Coryell County, now part of Ft. Hood. He was the son of the late John E. and Hazel Cross Mayberry. He grew up in Flat and graduated from Flat High School in 1961. He married Betty Walters on August 16, 1963. He then graduated from Southwest Texas State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He taught school in Turnersville and later went to work as a civil service employee at Ft. Hood, retiring in 1997. He enjoyed traveling with his wife in the RV, riding motorcycles, working in the yard and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also had a passion for classic country music and morning coffee sessions with his friends. He had a love for the Lord and was a member and Deacon of Live Oak Baptist Church. Dan is survived by his wife, Betty of 52 years; daughters, Tilli Dean and husband, Guy and Andrea Mock and husband, James; son, Dan Mayberry, Jr. and wife, Nora; brother, L.C. Mayberry and wife, Mike Nell; sister, Carolyn Reed; eight grandchildren, Jordan and Hunter Dean, Sean Gilliland, Caden and Maci Mock, Jacob Bekken, Gina Breitinger, and Amanda Dees; and five great-grandchildren. The family has designated Live Oak Baptist Church for memorials, 113 FM 107, Gatesville, TX 76528.
