Virginia Rhodes

Virginia Rhodes, age 92, of Gatesville passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2015 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Ken Laney officiating. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Virginia was born on November 13, 1922 in Provencal, Louisiana to the late T.J. Byrd, Jr. and Bertha Tynes Byrd. She lived in Louisiana before moving to Gatesville in 1959. She married Marshall “Dusty” Rhodes on March 9, 1936. He preceded her in death on March 1, 1988. She loved her family and was a member of Live Oak Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Quinton Byrd; and sons-in-law, Laddie Howell and Don Palmer. She is survived by her daughters, Juanita Howell of Natchitoches, LA, Cheryl Palmer of Gatesville, Kim McLearen and husband, Curtis of Gatesville; sons, C.W. Rhodes and wife, Vivian of Waco, Ronnie Rhodes and wife, Sharon of Gatesville; sisters, Clovis Whitehead of Natchitoches, LA, Doris Bynog of Shreveport, LA, Glenda Fennison of Kentucky; brother, Hugh P. Byrd of Hughes Springs; 13 grandchildren, Greg and Gary Howell, Lisa Methvin, Johnny and Scotty Rhodes, Jennifer Campbell, Steve and Casey Rhodes, Pam Pack, Jarrod and Aaron Palmer, Kristin and Dustin McLearen; 21 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
