Eugene Weldon Martin, age 92, of Granbury, Texas passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2015. Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m., Sunday, October 11, 2015 at Slater Cemetery which is recognized with a Historical Marker, acknowledging the generous land donation for the cemetery by Weldon's grandparents. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 Noon, Sunday, October 11, 2015 at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville. Eugene Weldon Martin was born in King, Texas to parents, Eugene Cullen Martin and Mary Kibbie Carpenter Martin. Weldon was the oldest of five children, William Harold Martin (deceased), Clifton Elliott Martin of Gatesville, Belva Jane Martin, and Dorothy Addeline Dotson of Dover, Arkansas. He married Josephine Sayles Martin on September 3, 1947 in Odessa, Texas and they were "sealed" for time and eternity in the London, England Mormon Temple. She preceded him in death in 1986. They had three daughters, Connie Martin Eckard, who preceded him in death in 2005, Nancy Martin Vassiliou (Demetrios) of Granbury, Texas, and Jeanelle Martin Adamak (Russ) of Indianapolis, Indiana. Weldon Martin was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Weldon attended schools in Pearl and Slater, Texas. He moved to Odessa, Texas in 1946, where he began his career in the oil and gas industry with CE-Natco. His 40 year career took him to London, Iraq, Qatar, and Nigeria for more than a decade. He appeared on the cover of U.S. Oil and Gas magazine in recognition for his work in the petroleum industry. Weldon valued "life-long learning" as evidenced by his voracious study and thirst for reading. He read an entire set of encyclopedias and had the ability to discuss almost any topic. He loved history and was a contributing author to the book on Coryell County. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed hunting and fishing with family members, in various locations around the country. He also had a deep passion for animals and leaves behind his beloved cat and two dogs. He moved from Odessa to Granbury, Texas in 2013, to be closer to his family. He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Martin Vassiliou (Demetrios) of Granbury, Texas, and Jeanelle Martin Adamak (Russ) of Indianapolis, Indiana; five grandchildren, Dr. Christos Vassiliou (Wendi) of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Diona Vassiliou Page (Mark Anthony) of Granbury, Texas, Mindy Eckard Guillen (David) of Granbury, Texas, and Aaron Adamak and Ashley Adamak Gray (Chris) of Indianapolis, Indiana; eight great-grandchildren, Cullen Vassiliou, Zaniyah, Demetrios and E'Lyn Page, Brooke Eckard, Kimberly Guillen, Tori Adamak, and Tracy Dean; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and a multitude of friends that were all very important in his life. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the doctors and nurses at Lake Granbury Medical Center (Dr. Cody Hartshorn), the staff of Harbor Lakes Nursing Home and the staff of Cleburne Hospice for the excellent care of their loved one.
