Ruthie Braziel

Ruthie Braziel, age 87, of Gatesville passed away Friday, October 23, 2015. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 31, 2015 at Scott’s Funeral Home with Carla Braziel and Nancy Ashcraft officiating. Private family burial will follow. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, October 30, 2015 at the funeral home. Ruthie was born on October 29, 1927 in Gatesville, Texas to the late Jim and Nettie Franks. She attended school in Gatesville, graduating in 1945. She married Bill Joe Braziel on December 20, 1947 in Temple, Texas. He preceded her in death on December 31, 2014. They made their first home in Plainview, Texas, and the remainder of the time they lived in Gatesville. Ruthie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gatesville. Above all else, she had a fierce love for her family. Also preceding her in death were two sisters, Harriet Neuman and Jane Davis; and three brothers, James Franks, Carroll Franks, and Marvin Franks. Ruthie is survived by her daughter, Carol Riddle and her husband, Hugh; son, Steve Braziel and his wife, Carla; and daughter, Janey Calhoun and her husband, Rory; brother-in-law, Bertrum Davis; eight grandchildren, Mory Riddle, Brandon Riddle and wife, Jessica, Jennie Rambo and husband, Randy, Eric Braziel, Matt Braziel, Nick Braziel, Rory Calhoun and wife, Jennifer, and Carolyn Calhoun; seven great-grandchildren; and a special niece and nephew, Bill and Nancy Ashcraft. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at Coryell Memorial Hospital who cared for her.
