Katherine (Katie) Marie Hudler, age 89, of Gatesville passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at a local assisted living facility. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 16, 2015 at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville with visitation following the services. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. Katie was born at home near Mooreville, Texas in Falls County on January 19, 1926, to Will and Emma (Schulte) Lampert and a loving family. Katie was a 1943 graduate of Lorena High School, and then attended the 4C Business College in Waco. After graduation from 4C, she took a position with the Army Air Corps at Blackland AAF Base in Waco. When Blackland was scheduled for closing shortly after WWII ended, she accepted a transfer to what is now known as Goodfellow AFB in San Angelo. In San Angelo, she met Stanley Hudler and they married on December 31, 1946 at Cottonwood Baptist Church in Falls County, on one of the snowiest New Year’s Eves ever in Central Texas. They were married for more than 64 years until Stan’s death in 2011. Katie and Stan lived in San Angelo, Austin, and several other central Texas towns over the years, making many great friends at every location. Katie worked in several different departments at the University of Texas during their years in the Austin area. They both retired from the University of Texas in 1985 and resided in Kerrville, Gatesville and Copperas Cove in their retirement years. Katie loved to cook and bake. She always had something sweet for any visitors to her home. Sweet was in her nature; all who got to know her always said she was a sweet lady. Katie also enjoyed the domino games known as Texas 42 and 84. She and Stan were always ready to play a game. The Baptist church played a major role in Katie’s life, and she made many friends at all the churches where she was a member. Katie was preceded in death by her husband, father, mother, four brothers, three sisters, a grandson, and a son-in-law. She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Overley and husband, David of Burnet; son, Byron Hudler of Austin; grandsons, Jared Hudler of San Antonio and James Hudler of Austin, Joe Overley and his wife, Dee Dee, and great-grandsons, Maguire and Campbell of Plano; sisters, Dolores Shirley and husband, John of Round Rock, Hazel Gibson of Katy; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Memorials can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
