Melva Pippen, 74, formerly of Abilene, TX, joined her Heavenly Father, Feb 21, 2009. A special Memorial Service will be at 3:00 PM on March 22, 2009 at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville, with Chaplain Donald Walls officiating. Melva was born in Baton Rouge, LA on October 10, 1934 to Burton & Maudie Bailey. She graduated from Rising Star High School in 1952 then attended a Medical Transcriptionist School in Abilene where she worked for several Dr’s. She retired from Hendrick Medical Center in 1993. She later moved to Granbury, TX and cooked for the elderly at a retirement center. She loved to help people but most of all loved to cook. She then moved to Burnet, TX and was a member of the Hill Country Singles where she had many friends. She moved to Gatesville in 2006 to be closer to family. Melva was a caring, loving soul. She loved her children, family & friends and would do anything for them. She enjoyed dancing and traveling. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and her favorite vacation spot was Maui, Hawaii. She loved the Lord and visited many churches in Gatesville. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Melva was preceded in death by her parents Burton & Maudie Bailey, son-in-law Scott Zellman and Great Granddaughter Lillie Martin. Melva is survived by three children, Dirk Pippen of Euless, TX, Dana Zellman of Cisco, TX, and Kristi Wallace of Gatesville, TX; grandchildren, Mandi & husband J. J. Lee, Shay and Audrey Martin and Dakota Wallace; great grandchildren, Gavyn and Pyper Lee; sister, Berta & husband Bill Stroud; brother, Keith & wife Victoria Bailey; nephews, Mark & Tracy Stroud & Mickey Bailey and a cousin, GV. Contributions can be made to the Cancer Society in lieu of her sister Berta who has cancer.
