Mr. W.P. Paul, Sr., 91, of Gatesville, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2009. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, April 2, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at Scott’s Funeral Home with Rev. Rudy Rios and Dr. Royse Cockrell officiating. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6-8:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Paul was born on April 30, 1917 in the Tama Community of Coryell County to the late William Lewis and Rosie Lee Beaver Paul. He was reared and attended school in Coryell County, graduating Valedictorian from the Maple School in 1936. He married Miss Mattie Hellen Altum in 1937. She preceded him in death on February 8, 1960. Mr. Paul later married Miss Ruby Bell Altum in 1960. She preceded him in death in 1993. He married Aletha Maxwell in 1997. Mr. Paul made his home in the Coryell County area. He served in the military during WWII, and later retired as a civil service employee. He was a member of Gateway Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was also an ordained minister and held services for many years at the Rotunda Nursing Center. He is preceded in death by a step son, Rufus Maxwell, two sisters and four brothers. He is survived by his wife Aletha Paul of Gatesville; daughter, Johnnie Williams and husband Bobby of Gatesville; son, W.P. Paul, Jr. and wife Martha of Jonesboro; sister, Irene Bynum of Chula Vista, CA; stepdaughters, Linda Lee and husband David of Corsicana and Patricia Keene of Corsicana; grandchildren, Cheri Rios and husband Rudy, Shawn Paul and wife Anita, Marty Williams and wife Kendra, Dori Burns and husband Coby, and Toby Williams; and 9 great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Shawn Paul, Marty Williams, Toby Williams, Coby Burns, Dustin Rios, Brandon Rios, Colton Ridley, and Caden Ridley. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gateway Baptist Church.
