She married Vance Treadaway on November 23, 1942 in Brownwood. She was an Army wife, and they resided in many states and Germany for 27 years while raising four children. While they resided in New York, she was head cashier at Macy’s Department Store. They moved to Gatesville in 1963, where she finished raising her family. She led many Girl Scout Cookie campaigns and volunteering for the American Heart Association. She was a faithful member of Gateway Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1994; sister, Viola Sloan of Lampasas; and a brother, Vess Winkler of Brownwood. Ora’s self-sacrificing heart was best seen in her devotion to her family, where her children never knew the word “babysitter”, where warm gingerbread waited, for after school snacks and children’s clothes were always starched and ironed. She always helped, always encouraged, and always loved. She liked to travel and meet new people. She loved being outdoors, hiking, and rock collecting. She enjoyed watching her bird feeders and her beloved kittens, Powder and Sissy. She liked to go shopping, watch Wheel of Fortune, and work crossword puzzles. Ora loved her feisty “Red Hatter” friends, rooting for the Dallas Cowboy and the Texas Rangers. She truly loved all of her church family and missed being with them the last couple of years. Her greatest joy came from her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. By her “Living Example”, she showed her family and friends how to love our Lord. Ora’s beautiful warm smile could brighten any room. She has left many cherished and dear memories and a legacy of Love. Memorials may be made to Gateway Baptist Church, P.O.
