Milton was born on January 7, 1922, in Gatesville, Texas, to the late John Austin (Bud) Pollard and Frankie Lewis West Pollard. He attended Mountain Community School and graduated from Gatesville High School in 1939, continuing his education at a business school in Fort Worth. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. He married Billie Greer on February 1, 1950, in Fort Worth. Milton worked for Sinclair in Fort Worth until moving to Gatesville in 1953. He worked at Rocketdyne in McGregor for 19 years and was a rancher in Coryell County until his death. Milton was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church for almost 50 years. He enjoyed playing 84 with his family and friends and was an avid sports fan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Pollard, in 2004; sister, Maedell McCarver; brothers, Orville Pollard and Billy Pollard; and son-in-law, Tim Mayfield. Milton is survived by his daughters, Pat Mayfield of Gatesville; Penny Whitaker and husband, George, of Gatesville; and Peggy Baize and husband, Allen, of San Antonio; son, Paul Pollard and wife, Evelyn, of Gatesville; sister, Joann Etchison; grandchildren, Barrett Pollard, Lesli Baker, Lauren Whitaker, Joshua Baize, Jarrod Dunahoo, and Valerie Medina; and great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Emma, Claire, and Oliver Pollard; Dillon Baker, and forthcoming, Levi Baker. In recent months, Milton spoke often of the life he remembered from the 1930’s and 1940’s when simply a hot meal was hard to come by. The principles of humility and appreciation he learned would help to shape his future. He and our mother devoted themselves to providing a better life for their children and grandchildren. They instilled the values of ambition, hard work, honesty, and perseverance, putting family first always. Memorials may be made to Eastwood Baptist Church, 2518 Main Street, Gatesville, TX 76528.
