Mrs. Jewel Simons, age 98 of Gatesville, passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 in Killeen. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 26, 2015 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel in Gatesville. Burial will follow at Flint Creek Cemetery. There is no set time for visitation. Mrs. Simons was born on July 4, 1917 in the Seattle community of Coryell County, now part of Ft. Hood. She was the daughter of the late Jake and Myrtle Ayres Rhoads. She grew up in the County Line community and went to school in The Grove. She married Hubert Simons in 1932. They resided in the Cold Springs community, moving to Copperas Cove, when Ft. Hood expanded and later to Gatesville in the Hay Valley community in 1959. She was a member of the Hay Valley Baptist Church. She was preceded in death in by her husband in 1993 and a grandson, Bill Carothers in 1986. She is survived by her daughters, Betty Carothers, Shirley McKenzie; sons, Larry Simons, Billy Joe Simons, Dale Simons; grandchildren, Janice Simons of San Antonio, Ray Don (Tooter) Simons of Gatesville, Debbie Adkins of Gatesville, Sherry Alexander and husband, Ed of Georgetown, Wayland Simons, Wyatt Simons, Johnny Carothers and wife, Loretta of Gatesville, Mark Carothers of Gatesville, Monica McKenzie of Grapevine, Theresa Saenz of Gatesville, Shane Simons and wife, Christine of Gatesville, Angela Simons of Rockport, Cindy Hale and husband, Billy of Gatesville, Lesi Corliss and husband, James of Belton, Judy Diserens of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Tammy Shelton and husband, Neim of Mobile, Alabama; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
